Committee reports
a. Museum Creation
The lease for Burnby Hall was with Pocklington Town Council’s solicitors. Tendering for consultants to manage the refurbishment was underway. A bid for Community Ownership funding was being prepared. The application for the management charity had been submitted. PTC will hold a public meeting in July to inform residents of the progress.
PTC need to know details of museum security measures and environmental controls which may affect the refurbishment of Burnby Hall.
SPF grant The first invoices had been paid and submitted for reimbursement.
Trustees were working with the main consultants and the replica maker.
Five themes, of Clothing and Dress, Tools and Weapons, Beliefs, Trade, and Buildings, had been agreed for display boxes and items chosen to go in them. Accompanying text to explain the chronology of the items had been written. It was thought that another theme would be Landscape but this would not need a display box.
Accreditation is the priority, otherwise the museum will not be able to open. Steering documents were being prepared eg policies on collections, loans etc.
It was a requirement for accreditation that premises should have been open for at least 20 days. Any pop-up days should count towards this.
b. Collection Management and Research
There was a discussion about the problem of ongoing metal detecting and finds not being reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme. The museum encourages local detectorists to register items so ideally they can be displayed with recorded provenance in the Museum.
Two collections of items had been donated, one from Barmby Moor and one from Bishop Wilton.
c. Finance and Fund-raising
The Treasurer circulated copies of the accounts.
If the refurbishment of Burnby Hall goes to plan the building may be ready for PDHT to start fitting out the museum area by summer 2025. Major grants will not be possible without a lease which should be available later in 2024.
It is important to start fund raising and planning for the museum as soon as possible.
A grant application had been made to Humber Museums Partnership for a project to produce short films linking artefacts to the landscape.
d. Education, Events and Public Engagement
The Heritage Summit in Hull had been attended. 163 people had engaged with the PDHT stand.
Details of the PDHT November Heritage Festival were circulated.
The next event would be Pock-down on Saturday 27th July.
A programme of events and activities needs to be set up.
e. Facility and Volunteer Administration, Governance and Audit
A comprehensive list of volunteers needs to be drawn up.
A “Friends” organisation needs to be established.
f. Marketing and Communications
