Pocklington Heritage Festival – 2025

Pocklington Heritage Festival – 2025

14th-15th November 2025

This year the Festival was a two day event. The first day was a conference with the theme of the landscape of East Yorkshire. A capacity audience saw an outstanding day of lectures on the topic. Six experts in their field gave talks on geology, water and dew ponds, aerial surveys, geophysics, livestock and landscapes and forty years work on archaeology in East Yorkshire. A pop-up museum and book stalls featuring a book-launch of ‘Bill’s Book’ complemented a fascinating day.

The open day for all the family was well attended despite poor weather on the day. A variety of activities included understanding the past through builder archaeology reports, and was was so fascinating. Credit to Chris Bond for some unique research. Making a sword and shield was popular and solving the trail lead to prizes awarded. The 1066 Battle of Stamford Bridge Society have done some innovative research on the archaeology landscape around their town and their stand was buzzing. East Riding Archaeology society reported some positive feedback from visitors to their stand. Some artefacts were present in the travelling museum and recent finds. The Pocela Panel was on display for the first time and was saved for the nation and Pocklington by a Trust crowd funding initiative.
