PDHT Trustee meeting for 7th July 2025

Pocklington District Heritage Trust

Summary of a meeting of the Trustees held at 4.00pm on 7th July 2025*

at Pocklington Rugby Club

Committee reports

a. Museum Creation
The lease of Burnby Hall from East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) to Pocklington Town Council (PTC) was still not
agreed.
Once the lease was in place it should be possible to arrange archive and temporary exhibition space.
ERYC had previously agreed to housing, temporarily, the finds from Malton Archaeological Practice (MAP) at the
Treasure House. The Treasure House was now full and this would not be possible. ERYC would agree to the finds
coming direct to Burnby Hall if the accommodation was adequate.
A standard archive room should not be too expensive and it might be possible to find a grant specifically for this.
There were approximately 150 boxes to come from MAP and a further 100 boxes from other local digs.
Before items could be moved to Burnby Hall the roof needed some repairs.
It was agreed to look into the fitting out of a room.

b. Collection Management and Research
The Arts Council had agreed stage 1 of the purchase of the Anglo-Saxon panel. Once final approval was in place the
£3968 would be paid for it. A case had been bought to house it. There was a surplus of over £1300 from the fund-
raising appeal. It was agreed to name it the “Pocela Panel”
The chair of the Pocklington and District Local History Group (PDLHG) gave a short description of the activities of the
group which was founded 18 years ago. She explained the group was keen to support the work of the Trust and to
avoid any conflicts of interest. PDLHG was looking into transferring ownership of its archive and some other objects
to the Trust so that it could be used for temporary exhibitions. The details of this needed to be worked out before a
proposal was put to a general meeting of the group.

c. Finance and Fund-raising
The current accounts were circulated.
An invoice for design work for £600+ VAT was approved for payment.
Donations of £3500 had been received in the current year.
HSBC is now offering free banking to charities.
A consultant had offered a free 30 minutes online meeting to discuss, with PDHT and PTC, a joint lottery bid.
A vote of thanks was given to the Treasurer.
d. Education, Events and Public Engagement
PDHT had attended an event at Kilnwick Percy and a Heritage Conference at Skipton.
PDHT has also attended an event at Pocklington School.
Coming events were at Bough, Pockdown and a visit from the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological
Society (YAYAS).
The programme for the Heritage Festival on 14 th and 15 th November had been agreed and speakers booked for the
conference. The theme would be landscape.
It was agreed that the Trust would support an event at Nunburnholme Church on 21 st November.

e. Facility and Volunteer Administration, Governance and Audit
A person was still needed to take this on.
f. Marketing and Communications
Two radio interviews had been given.
A newsletter was being worked on, but it was not to be released yet, as it was hoped to include news of the lease
being granted.
Trustees were looking into moving the website to a new platform, which would be easier to use, in November.

  • Please note these minutes are awaiting approval by the trustees on the 1st September.
