Recent Developments in Archaeology in Eastern Yorkshire – A Conference.
When: Wednesday 16th November 2022, from 9am-4pm, at The Community Hall, Burnby Hall, Pocklington
A conference highlighting recent developments in archaeology and geology in Eastern Yorkshire is being held at Burnby Hall in November. Organised by Pocklington District Heritage Trust in partnership with Bridlington U3A Geoarchaeology Group, the conference will hear five presentations illustrating the wealth of archaeology within Eastern Yorkshire; including some investigations within the boundaries of the proposed UNESCO Global Geopark for East Yorkshire.
The programme includes a talk on the archaeology of the western Wolds by Peter Halkon, an update by the team from Historic England and the York Archaeological Trust on its ‘Food For Thought’ Yorkshire Wolds project, presentations about Lake Pickering and Hanging Grimston, and archaeologist Paula Ware relating the story of discovering three Iron Age chariots in East Yorkshire.
The conference, from 9.00am to 4.00pm on Wednesday 16 November, is the first event of a four-day heritage festival at Pocklington, and there will also be displays, stalls and exhibitions on show, including a ‘pop-up’ museum of local archaeological and geological items. The day’s programme is displayed and tickets, £8, are available via Eventbrite. A limited number may also be available locally or at the door for £10. Refreshments will be available during the day, but delegates need to source their own lunch. A lunchtime pass to Burnby Hall Gardens and its café is included in the conference ticket price.
Children are welcome, and activities will be provided for them.
